I love to travel and as a traveler I have always been drawn towards places that can offer me an amalgamation of natural beauty, culture richness coupled with the sense or urge for adventure. An archipelago situated in the Bay of Bengal, The andaman & nicobar islands were always on my list a travel addict and when I recently visited this mesmerising island land all i can simple is that if you want answer to an irreplaceable journey..!!

These beautiful islands are home to crystal clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and tropical rainforests buzzing with birds and a colourful marine life. The tranquility and the warmth of the locals captured me from my first step on these shores.

With its white sandy beaches washed by crystal-clear water and flanked on both sides with swaying palm trees, these beach sites are a little piece of paradise. I was lucky enough to explore a few of these beautiful stretches in my visit, all with a charm different from one another.

Radhanagar Beach, Havelock Island Radhanagar Beach is literally a hidden gem that adorns the beaches of Asia circuit each year. The view of those pure white sand beaches with waters as blue as the sky turned me awestruck. I did a ton of siting on the beach, sunning and gazing at gorgeous coastline views.

Elephant Beach, Havelock Island – Elephant beach owes its name to the rocks which pots one of this beaches that form an elephant-like rock formation and perfect place for someone looking out tranquility. Not only was the sand pristine and water relatively inviting with gentle waves, but just offshore also seemed like a prime spot for swimming and snorkeling to see some of the vibrant marine life.

Wandoor Beach, South Andaman Island : Wandoor Beach of gold is a long peaceful beach escape in antithesis to the chaotic reposes of life. As the world suffered I was captivated with the gorgeous sunsets that turnned to brilliant pinks and red.. it truly felt magical.

Underwater Exploration in Andaman Sea

The Andaman Sea, on which the islands are located is home to one of richest marine bio-diversities in the world. Having snorkelled and dived in the Cook islands before I was keen to see what lay beneath the ocean here and it did not disappoint.

Adventure Activities in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

An adventure abode, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands offer a plethora of heart-pumping activities designed to cater for all kinds of thrill seekers.

Scuba Diving: The islands are some of the most ideal destinations for scuba diving as their marine life is very rich and their waters remain untouched. Nature had given me the opportunity to study all of those vivid coral reefs and a variedly gorgeous collection of marine beings, from flamboyant fish to magnificent sea turtles.

Trekking: Andaman and Nicobar Islands boast of beautiful green rainforests with an abundance for right hiking and trekking spots offering a variety at every step from walk in the woods, nature walks to more intense multi-day treks. My journey continued with a rewarding trek through the stunning woods of Havelock Island -I saw majestic waterfalls, encountered unique wildlife and soaked in nature’s peace.

Sea Walking: Sea walking is the most amazing thing to do; it allowed me to explore the water world by being above. I had a helmet on that was constantly pumping in air which allowed me to walk down the bottom of the ocean and see all these colors around.

Places of Historical and Cultural Interest in Andaman Nicobar

Although the natural beauty of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is impossible to surpass, they do have an interesting past linked with history as well which you must explore.

Inside Port Blair is a stark historical testament to India’s fight for freedom — the Cellular Jail, where numerous freedom fighters were imprisoned by British colonists. But as I traversed its hallways and cells, the resiliency and selflessness of those who used their courage to build this country’s freedom touched my heart.

Anthropological Museum, Port Blair: The cultural centre of the indigenous tribe needs a brief walk to reach from Phoenix Bay Jetty. The complex artefacts, crafts and artwork were captivating to marvel at with great insights into the multi-hued cultural fabric of these islands.

Samudrika Marine Museum, Port Blair: This one is for all those who want to know about the marine life in that area. For the next couple of hours, I marvelled at the extensive series of preserved specimens and skeletons along with interactive displays that represented a variety or marine life native to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Top islands in the Andaman & Nicobar (want to visit list)

The Andaman and Nicobar is some of the 500 islands, so it could be difficult to decide which ones are worth exploring. Below are some of the must-visit islands based on my personal experiences.

Havelock Island: This island is well known for its clear beaches, tropical forests and rich coral reefs. I stayed there for a few days, discovering its natural charms as well as having water sports and then soaking up the relaxed island life.

Neil Island: Neil, with its beautiful beaches and clear blue waters has a dreamy vibe perfect for relaxation. I wiled away afternoons on sandy beaches, snorkelled in tin-suited reef waters and feasted nightly on seafood plucked straight from the sea.

Baratang Island, and to experience the exclusive flora -fauna of Andaman – Nicobar Islands this place would be an ideal one. I took an exciting trip through the mangrove creeks and I saw a saltwater crocodile in wild nature, along with hundreds of migratory birds.

When You Should Visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Being a tropical island city, The Andaman and Nicobar Islands can be visited in all the seasons throughout with tourists. Now, there is no determining on when to really visit as it relies wholly upon what you want and the matters wherein you are inclined yet here’s a concept.

Best time to visit – December -March: It is the peak season and perfect weather with a minimum chance of rainfall. Another good time to visit is April-November, perfect for watersports and island hopping

The best time is April to May, when the climate isn’t too hot and humid making it less crowded for those looking to save some money.

June to September: Rains are heavy during the monsoon season and often storms, which can affect travel plans. Nevertheless, the period comes with attractions such as bioluminescent plankton and vibrant greenery only found during this time.

Staying There In Andaman, Nicobar Islands

Accommodation: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have all types of accommodation options for travellers, right from plush resorts to budget guesthouses.

Luxury Resorts – For couples that want to be pampered and are looking for a luxury experience, the islands have large luxurious resorts with butler service, private beaches and all of the amenities you could imagine. Dolphins Inn Residency, Hotel Anada group of hotels and Debi Bungalow are some budget ones. Eco-Friendly Resorts – there are plenty of eco-friendly resorts on the islands, if you want a more sustainable way to resort. These resorts are interested in promoting sustainable practices while giving you nature experience.

We recommend a beach resort or cottage instead: To ensure you have an authentic island feel whilst on holiday why not book into one of the numerous resorts and cottages that are scattered all over the islands. They are homely and usually beachfront.

How to transfer Andaman and Nicobar Islands

It is quite easy to get there as it offers different ways of transportation, some kind like:

There are two ways to go the islands By air: The easiest method of reaching these destinations is by taking a flight. Port Blair, is the main entry port and you can take direct flights from major Indian cities i.e., Chennai, Kolkata & Delhi to that has airport known as Veer Savarkar International Airport.

From Sea: For extreme travellers, there go the sea route. The Bay of Bengal can be crossed by regular ferry services from several coastal cities in India such as Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Kolkata.

Logistics Within the Island: Upon reaching Port Blair, you can move around the islands by ferries and boats or even chopper. If there is only one piece of advice I can offer you it would be to think ahead about your inter-island transportation, and make sure that everything runs smoothly.

Final Verdict: The Reason Andaman and Nicobar Islands is in my travel bucket list!
